RATTAN CARE & MAINTENANCE

(Always wear eye protection to prevent foreign liquid or material from entering the eye. )

Rattan should be maintained like any other wood furniture.

Dust build up should be periodically removed by using a vacuum with a soft brush attachment.

Soil/Dirt on Finish should be cleaned by trying Murphy's Oil Soap and a soft clean rag to try and remove the soiling.  If this does not work use a FINE grit steel wool, sand paper, or clean rag with acetone and lightly rub the soiled area.  Take care not to take off the finish.

Polishing, you may use any over the counter wood polish such as Pledge or Old English as directed on the container to polish your rattan.

Scratches to wood   Find a Maple Brown or Cherry  or whitewash marker or a marker similar color of the rattan at a local hardware stores.  Sand with a FINE grit steel wool or sandpaper,  to make it smooth if necessary.  Apply marker to the affected area and surrounding area to blend.   Rub with finger to blend if the marker blots up.  You may have to let it dry for 30 seconds and apply another coat to get it darker.  If the shine on the finish is not consistent spray lightly with clear coat spray.

Gouges, Dents, Cracks Find a fill stick that is similar in color to the rattan at your local hardware store.  Firmly rub the fill stick over the are, rub in with your finger or paper towel. Remove any extra fill stick material off the surrounding area.  Spray lightly with clear coat spray to match the shine.
