A. Yes! The Hobbs School was built in 1930, housing all grades when first opened. In the 1940's, it housed first thru eighth grade, with two grades per class room.  Bea Grimmie taught First and Second grades, Treava Scott taught Third and Forth, Flora Dickover taught Fifth and Sixth.  Jeanette Apple taught Seventh and Eighth as well as serving as principal.

The Hobbs "Gold Lions" were coached by Verl Grimme. They wore gold uniforms with red numbers.  Several county basketball tourneys were played in the Hobbs Gym.

The school was closed in 1972, when the county schools were consolidated into either Tipton or Northern Community School Corporations.

Today, the School House is almost identical to how it looked when it was originally built. The class rooms still have their original chalk boards. The ticket booth window can still be seen. The gymnasium is just how it was after the final basketball game: The bleachers still line the south end of the gym, the basketball goals are still hanging, the center "H" is still visible at the half court mark, and the scoreboard with the final score is still hanging!

The stage even has the final background from its last play hanging up. People who visit the School House do not only get the finest selection of wicker and rattan: they also get a glimpse of the past!
